Whew! We've been meaning to write for a while - things have been...busy!
We've had SO much fun connecting with everyone over the last couple of months. Between sponsored bike rides and drum tube playing in the park and fundraising meetings, it's really been beautiful to see community coming together for this cause.
There is a lot to update you on but so many opportunities to get involved with Philo over the next few months
fundraising update
Our current mission is to raise funds that will allow us to carry on gathering indoors over the next few months. On Saturday, a team of four cycled 50K and have raised £875 so far which is just AMAZING. They have a stretch target you can still contribute to here.
Massive thanks to Paul, Bobby, John and Jason for supporting the project in this way and to the wonderful contributions from the wider community. This has already allowed us to plan sessions moving forwards at the Grove Park Youth Club.
a day of play
We're very excited to share our next fundraising event, A DAY OF PLAY which we are grateful to be holding at St. Peter's Brockley, Tuesday 29 October.
Spaces are limited, so book quick if you want to be a part of this exciting event! We honestly can't wait. Grateful for all the offerings and support so far, this really is where we've seen first hand that the community has what the community needs. There will be workshops, an art show, pre-loved sales and more.
It's free entry and tokens for activities are available to purchase on the door (cash or card accepted). There's also a raffle with some great prizes up for grabs so get in there if you want a chance to win - whoop! You can buy tickets in advance when reserving your family space.
Click the flyer for more - and please share with friends and family too!
create + play in nature
Last week we had our first Philo session in Forster park, led in collaboration with Aaron Harris - sounds were created from carpet inner tubes, tape, pringle pots, sticks, bottles, acorns...anything we could find basically.
The Philo jam session in the rain brought the vibes to our play and it felt great to be together again. This session also made special acknowledgement of the 1st October 1960, the day of regained independence for Nigeria. Thank you to Forster Park for having us - we can't wait to be back next month.
If you'd like to join our next create + play in nature session on 5 Nov, please let us know you're coming!
Anyone else missed being at Grove Park Youth Club? We have!
The good news is, thanks to the amazing contributions and support, we are able to start running monthly sessions, starting from next week! We would love to see new and old families back in this amazing space again.
So our autumn programme is as follows:
1st Tuesday of the month at Forster Park from 12pm (bring & share lunch)
3rd Tuesday of the month at GPYC from 12pm
Well that's more than enough from us - we just want to end by saying how truly grateful we are to be sharing what means so much to us. Having safe accessible spaces for children and their families to belong to in south east london is at the heart of Philo. It is a journey of understanding ourselves as educators, parents and artists and we're thankful for all the learning along the way. It kind of feels like just the beginning! - so if you would like to join us in anyway, we would love to hear from you.
Love,
Tash & Jason
